Pekanbaru is the capital of Riau Province and is the third largest city on the island of Sumatra, after Medan in the North and Palembang in South Sumatra. A large and clean city, Pekanbaru is better known as a business city for its exports of crude oil, palm oil, and pulp and paper. It is cut from west to east by the Siak river, which serves as river transport. In the old days, the town was a main trade and distribution hub for commodities and goods that include coffee and coal produced in the highlands of the Minangkabau in West Sumatra, to be carried to the busy trading ports along the Straits of Malacca.

Great Mosque of An-Nur

An-Nur Great Mosque is a mosque located in Pekanbaru, Riau, Indonesia. Construction began in 1963 and was completed in 1968. It is one of the grandest mosques in Indonesia. Seen from the side of the building, the mosque has influences from various architectural styles: Malay, Turkish, Arabic and Indian.The mosque's Nur was built in 27 Rajab 1388 AH or 20 October 1968. It was inaugurated by Arifin Ahmad, the Governor of Riau and in 2000 was renovated during the time of Governor Saleh Djasit.

Alam Mayang Fishing Park

Alam Mayang Fishing Park is located at Harapan Raya street km 8 from the centre of Pekanbaru city. Alam Mayang is a recreational and relaxing place, which is frequently visited, mainly by those who have fishing hobby, as there are a number of fishing ponds in this place with various species of fishes in it. It equipped with three pools with 18.560km2 and also has many kind of fishes such as; fresh water crap fish, lemak, nila, patin and sepat siam. Relaxing under the shadiness of the vegetation and a beautiful natural atmosphere is really a very exciting experience.

Riau Cultural Park

The museum is built in traditional Riau-Malay style. Next door to the museum is Taman Budaya Riau, which comprises several traditional houses. The place is designated as the centre of cultural activities. The museum known by the name of Sang Nila Utama is a Malay traditional architectural model building located at Jenderal Sudirman Street Pekanbaru, not far from Sultan Syarif Kasim II airport. The museum, which is opened daily, except on Sunday and holidays, is keeping various collection of objects of art, history and culture from Riau area in general.

Lake Limbungan

Been to Pekanbaru not fit it if not visit the natural attractions of Lake Limbungan. Recreation area which is about 10 Km from Pekanbaru city center.
