Petaling Jaya, 17 August 2018 – – Malindo Air flight OD360 touched down in Silangit International Airport (Lake Toba) this afternoon at 2:15p.m. (local time). The flight received a warm welcome by a water cannon salute and passengers were greeted by a traditional dance performance and a traditional scarf respectively as a souvenir.

The 1hour and 30 minutes flight made its departure from Subang Skypark earlier at 1:45p.m. with an ATR72-600 aircraft, comprising 72 seats.

Chandran Rama Muthy, CEO of Malindo Air said, “We are very excited to be the first airline that started a direct international connection to Silangit, the main gateway to Lake Toba. With this new connection, we provide easy access and hassle-free travel experience at the city airport. This will encourage more new and return travelers to visit Lake Toba, which will promote the tourism development and benefit the local economy as well.”

“We will continue to explore more opportunities for direct connections from Subang to Indonesia. The departure from Subang Skypark is more cost-effective, especially with the 15kg baggage allowance that we offer,” he added.

Kelvin Ong, Malaysia Country Manager for Visit Indonesia said, “We are pleased to welcome this new airlift from Kuala Lumpur to Lake Toba which will provide an ease for Malaysian travelers in reaching one of the world’s Natural Wonder. Other than spectacular breathtaking views and picturesque landscape, Lake Toba is also the largest Lake in Southeast Asia and one of the deepest lake in the world.

Acting group chief executive officer of Malaysia Airports, Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin said, “We would like to congratulate Malindo Air on the commencement of its new route from Subang to Silangit, Indonesia. We are proud of Malindo Air for being the first Malaysian carrier flying into Silangit. Due to the close proximity of the famous Lake Toba, Medan, Malindo Air certainly made the right choice to fly 4 times a week to Silangit from Subang Airport. Being the second destination in Indonesia to be flying out from Subang Airport after Batam, we hope this route will boost tourism and also enhance the air connectivity between the 2 nations.”

Malindo Air flight OD361 will then depart from Silangit International Airport at 2:50p.m. (local time) and arrive in Subang at 5:15p.m. A promotional fare for this route is available RM189 one way and booking can be done through Malindo Air website www.malindoair.com, ticketing offices and customer care center.

Lake Toba is the largest lake in Indonesia and also the largest volcanic lake in the world. Travelers can indulge themselves in the beauty of nature as the lake is surrounded by mountains, hot springs, and waterfalls that come with a breath-taking view.
