BATIK AIR & LION AIR GROUP STRENGTHEN TIES WITH TOUR OPERATORS TO ELEVATE KLIA AS UMRAH HUB

Kuala Lumpur, 11 January 2024 – Batik Air together with the Lion Air Group, is engaging with Umrah travel agents from Indonesia and Malaysia to promote KLIA as the central hub for Umrah journeys.

The event is set to mark a significant milestone for Batik Air in its support of the Malaysian government's initiative in strengthening Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) as the Umrah hub for the long term.

Group Strategy Director of Batik Air, Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy highlighted the substantial demand for Umrah flights following the introduction of the non-stop service between Kuala Lumpur and Jeddah on August 15, 2023.

"This surge underscores Batik Air's steadfast commitment to addressing the increasing demand and delivering exceptional service to Muslim passengers in Malaysia and Indonesia," he said, adding that this strategic move aligns seamlessly with the rising travel interest to Jeddah, and Batik Air is enthusiastic about contributing to and sustaining this momentum.

Furthermore, he mentioned that Batik Air is actively collaborating with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture of Malaysia to establish KLIA as the distinguished 'Umrah hub' for their Jeddah flights.

"Looking ahead, our vision extends beyond individual flights, as we plan to integrate Batik Air’s Jeddah services with feeder services from Lion Air Group affiliate airlines, reinforcing our commitment to seamless travel experiences,” he stated during his address at the Batik Air Engagement Event with Tour Operators.

The event was also graced by the presence of the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture of Malaysia, YB Tuan Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, who graciously confirmed his attendance.

More than 100 distinguished tour operators from Indonesia and Malaysia, specialising in promoting Umrah pilgrimage travel, participated in this event. It served as a pivotal assembly for stakeholders in the tourism sector to convene, exchange ideas, and discuss strategies vital for fostering the growth and progress of tourism.

By uniting key players from Malaysia and Indonesia, this collaborative effort aims to explore opportunities, overcome challenges, and collectively contribute to the advancement of Umrah pilgrimage travel.
