BATIK AIR LAUNCHES NON-STOP FLIGHTS FROM KUALA LUMPUR TO BATAM, RIAU ISLANDS

Kuala Lumpur – February 17, 2024 – Batik Air is excited to announce the launch of its direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Batam, Indonesia commencing on February 16, 2024.

This new service, operating three times weekly, will depart KL International Airport (KUL) every Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday at 4:10 PM, and arrive at Hang Nadim International Airport (BTH) at 4:20 PM local time. The return flight will depart BTH at 1:15 PM (local time) and arrive at KUL every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 3:25 PM

Chief Executive Officer of Batik Air, Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy, said the introduction of this route underscores Batik Air's commitment to providing seamless travel experiences and further solidifies its position as a leading airline in the region.

"The launch of direct flights from Batam to Kuala Lumpur represents a strategic move for Batik Air as we continue to expand our presence in key markets. This route not only enhances connectivity between the two points but also serves as a gateway for passengers to access a myriad of regional and international destinations,” he said adding that this new route will enable passengers from Batam to connect to Batik Air’s ever-growing flight network to 53 destinations across 22 countries through KLIA.

Batam, known for its strategic location and vibrant tourism scene, has been a popular destination for a long time. Over the years, it has grown into a resort hub, attracting weekenders and holidaymakers alike. From pristine beaches such as Melayu Beach, Nongsa Beach and Viovio Beach, it also stands out as a top regional golfing hotspot. With numerous world-class golf courses, Batam offers a unique experience for golf enthusiasts looking to enjoy the sport amidst stunning natural landscapes.

As a prominent aviation hub, KLIA effortlessly facilitates passenger access to explore the captivating Malaysian destinations such as Penang, Langkawi, and Kuching. With this new service, it will not only provide greater flexibility and convenience for travellers – whether for leisure or business – but also stimulate tourism receipts and strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.

According to a report released by the Indonesia Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in August 2023, Singapore claimed the highest spot, with Malaysia following closely behind at second place, in terms of foreign tourists visiting Batam.

We are confident that this connection will further bolster tourist arrivals are we are gearing up for Visit Malaysia 2026 and contribute to the economic prosperity of both nations”, said Dato’ Dr. Ammar Abd Ghapar, Director General of Tourism Malaysia.

The skies over Kuala Lumpur were filled with jubilation today as Batik Air's flight OD357 from Batam touched down at KL International Airport (KLIA) at 3:25 pm. Passengers were welcomed with goodie bags handed out by Dato’ Dr. Ammar Abd Ghapar, along with its Deputy Director-General (Promotion) Datuk Musa Yusof and Minister Counselor Embassy of Republic of Indonesia Yoshi Iskandar.

To commemorate this, Batik Air is offering special promotional fares starting from RM139, all-inclusive one-way Economy Class tickets. Operated by Batik Air's Boeing 737 aircraft, the Batam route offers a single-class configuration, ensuring passengers enjoy a delightful and comfortable journey.
